The existing institutional framework in Republic of Serbia of importance for the protection of biodiversity makes the scale of public bodies, at the top, to public enterprises as a special guardian of certain protected natural resources, on the other end of the scale. As key and the most responsible institutions are seen the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia. Their institutional and operational-technical competence and ability to comprehensively implement the sectored action reaching all biodiversity points in Serbia should be beyond any doubt. Certain responsibilities in the field of biodiversity in Serbia have, and above all, the Department of Forests and Department of Plant Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, then the Agency for Environmental Protection and the Provincial Secretariat for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, which jurisdiction covers nature conservation policies in territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Strengthening the institutional capacity of managers of protected areas and raising the efficiency of the competent state bodies on prevention and punishment of the undesirable and illegal activities in protected and ecologically significant areas are just some of the priority tasks.
