The paper presents the results regarding state and tree species composition of two structures on permanent reserach plots with former selection forests after the windstorm of 2004 in High Tatra National Park. In compartment 487a, where European larch is present in the tree species composition, the structure with a proportional share of larch in nearly all diameter classes was maintained. This structure together with the sufficient amount of natural regeneration in the height categories up to 130 cm provides good conditions for the maintenance of the forest stand in the future. In the case of selection forest in compartment 707, where no larch was present, all Norway spruce and Silver fir stems from the upper and middle tree layer were uprooted by the windstorm. Despite this fact, remaining lower layer trees in the diameter range l-lO cm together with the natural regeneration individuals up to the height category 130 cm are able to maintain the existence of the new generation of the forest.
