Physiological characteristics related to productivity of elite soybean lines

At present soybean production is not sufficient for the demand within the country. Therefore, the physiological characteristics were evaluated as criteria for selection to increase productivity, Ten soybean elite lines, namely, ST2, ST2 34-1, NS1 1-12, NS 1 4-6, CM 60, Chakkrabhandhu No1, KUSL 3802-1, KUSL 3802-4, KUSL 3802-6 and KUSL 20004 were planted in a RCB with 3 replications. The experiment was conducted at Kasetsart University Kampangsan campus, Nakornphathom Province during dry season (January-April 2009). There were differences in physiological characteristics, yield and yield components among genotypes. Correlation coefficients among physiological characteristics and yield components with yield were investigated. It was found that 100 seed weight, number of seeds per plant, number of pods per plant, leaf area index at R5 and chlorophyll content at R6 were positively correlated with seed yield. Stepwise regression analysis showed that yield component characteristics namely 100 seed weight, number of seeds per plant and number of pods per plant and physiological characteristics namely leaf area index at R5, chlorophyll content at R5 and R6 were yield determinants.
