Study of thermophilic and thermotolerant fungi from soils and agricultural wastes

This study deals with a survey on thermophilic and thermotolerant fungi from soils and agricultural wastes form 10 locations of Thailand. Soil plate, dilution plate, heat treatment and alcohol treatment, yeast starch agar and yeast glucose agar have been used throughout. They were incubated at 45 deg C. This study aimed to isolate thermophilic and thermotolerant fungi that produced alpha-amylase and glucoamylase. The results showed that 147 fungal isolates were found. They are belong to 23 genera 32 species including Aspergillus fumigatus, A. niger, A. terreus, Aspergillus sp., Byssochlamys nivea, Curvularia lunata, Corynascus thermophilus, Emericella nidulans, E. variecolor, Eurotium spp., Hamigera sp., Gilmaniella grisea, Eupenicillium parvum, Eupenicillium spp., Malbranchea pulchella, Myceliophthora thermophila, Neosartoya fisherii, N. spinosa, Neosartoya spp., Paecilimyces variotii, Papulaspora thermophila, Penicillium spp., Pleuroascus spp., Rhizomucor pusilllus, Rhizopus rhizipodiformis, Scytalidium thermophilus, Talaromyces flavus, T. macrosporus, T. trachyspermus, T. wortmanii, Thermoascus aurantiacus, Thermomyces verrucosus and Thielavia terricola. In this study, we found fungi that have been reported to produce alpha-amylase and glucoamylase including A. niger (16 isolates), C. lunata (3 isolates), S. thermophilus (10 isolates) and R. pusilllus (5 isolates).
