Study of alcohol consumption patterns and social roles in alleviating alcohol problems of working-aged people in Chonburi province

This study investigated alcohol consumption patterns, the effects of alcohol consumption among working-aged people, the factors related alcohol consumption behavior in workplaces. The prevention or alleviation of problems resulting from alcohol consumption in workplace was also studied. The questionnaires were used to inquire 400 working-aged respondents in Chonburi province. The results reveal that 94.5 percent of the people drink alcohol with partners or colleagues. The majority of these (65 percent) perceive alcohol drinking as socialization. The factors affecting consumption at the significant level of 0.05 were sex, the perception of alcohol consumption from other people including family and partners or colleagues. The partners, colleagues, supervisors have frequently drinking behavior, higher frequency of monthly drinking than others at the significant level of 0.05. The alcohol drinking has negative effects including health, work, economic and social consequences. The problems resulting from alcohol consumption can be alleviated by family, colleague, supervisor and manager.
