The article analyses the effect of the shape of field on the length of turns, width of the strip for turning and the additional double cultivated area when ploughing with trailed and semi-mounted ploughs. It has been found out that when ploughing with a conventional plough the length of turn does not depend on the manner of movement and double cultivated area results always. The double cultivated area and the width of strip for turning are the smallest in furrow movement - in a positive angle between the direction of movement of the unit and the border of the field the acute angle is on the right side of the unit and the ridge movement - in a negative angle the acute angle is on the left side of the unit. When ploughing with a reversible plough oblong pear-shaped and eight-shaped turns have the smallest width of strip for turning. Shortened pear-shaped turns have the smallest length that does not depend on the direction of their performance, but in them as well as in the eight-shaped turns additional double cultivated area results. Oblong pear-shaped turns are recommended and in positive angle between the direction of movement of the unit and the border of the field the cultivation of the field must be from right to left of the field and in negative angle – the opposite. Regardless of the type of plough the most effective is the movement in which turns are performed from the side of the obtuse angle between the direction of movement of the unit and the border of the field.
