Traction problems arise with heavy loads on diffi cult terrain, wet ground and hillsides. This is a problem faced by many farmers, contractors and even foresters, and the answer is the power take-off drive. Paul Forrer AG is a Zürich company which has tackled this problem and developed and patented a solution. The Trailer Drive System (TDS) is the power take-off drive system of the future. Every tractor has its limits on steep or slippery ground when the trailer is heavily loaded. If the hydraulic wheel drive on the trailer is engaged, previously impossible situations can be dealt with simply and safely thanks to improved traction. At the heart of the drive are the wheel-hub motors, which are responsible for the torque and braking moment at the trailer axle. They draw hydraulic power from the tractor, ideally from a high-performance load sensing hydraulic system. The stored program control receives instructions via a sensor in the drawbar and a simple control unit in the driver’s cab, ensuring optimum drive power with maximum safety in all operating states and terrain situations.
