Response of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. plant to some biofertilization treatments

The effect of Easterna biofert and bacteria inoculation, as biofertilizers, under graded levels of chemical fertilizers on the growth characters, yield component and chemical constituents of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. plant was investigated. The bacteria used for seed inoculation were Azospirillum lipoferum, Bacillus polymyxa and Pseudomonas fluorescens. The strains were mixed in equal parts before seed inoculation for 2 h. The biofartilizers (Bacteria inoculation and Easterna biofert) were used under 0, 1/4 or 1/2 of recommended dose (RD) of NPK chemical fertilizers. The obtained results showed that using Easterna biofert or bacteria inoculation separately or combined with chemical fertilizers significantly improved growth characters and increased sepal yield of roselle plant compared to the control in the two experimental seasons. In addition, total anthocyanin content, total carbohydrates, chlorophyll content and NPK percentages were increased as a result of applying biofertilizers alone or combined with chemical fertilgers. The best treatment in this respect was bacteria inoculation +1/2 RD of chemical fertilizers. Othewise, there were no significant differences in this concern between this treatment and the full recommended dose of chemical fertilizers. By applying this treatment we can save the half quantity of chemical fertilizers used and obtain high quality product.
