Collection and Determination of the scale insects fauna of Ardebil, East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Kordestan and Zanjan Provinces

A total of 47 scale insect species (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) are recorded from Ardebil, East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Zanjan and Kordestan provinces. The species belong to 27 genera and 6 families: Asterolecanidae, Coccidae, Diaspididae, Margarodidae, Ortheziidae, and Pseudococcidae. Three species, Puto superbus Leonardi, Rhizopulvinaria variabilis Borchsenius and Diaspidiotus braunschvigi are first recorded for the Iranian fauna. Ninethy species occur on the forest trees and 18 species on pastures and 12 species attack on the orchards and crops. The distribution of the identified species indicates that 9 species are restricted to Irano-Turanian region, of which Diaspidotus baiati and Melanaspis louristanus are Indemec for Iran. No purely Mediterranean species are so far recorded, but 32 species belong to a Mediterranian/ Irano-Turanian regions; and the least common with the coccid species which are belonging to Saharo-Sindian region (11 species).
