Study on Reaction of Maize Hybrids and Lines to Fusarium Ear rot Agent.

Fusarium ear rot by Fusarium moniliforme is one of the most important diseases in the world . Using resistant cultivars is applied for the controling. In order to evaluate late maize lines and hybrids to Fusarium ear rot , an experiment was carried out with two replications in RCBD with 34 lines and 29 hybrids, 36 lines at Karaj, Sari and Gorgan stations in 2004 and 44 hybrids in 2005 and 19 lines and 25 hybrids in 2006. In this investigation all ears of plants was incoulated by nail punch technique at flowering stage. At physiological maturity, evaluation was condocted by using disease severity index (1-6).The results of combined analysis showed that there is significant difference among lines and hybrids on disease severity. In 2004 , the freqency of resistant line was 3%, tolerant 45 % and susceptible 52%. In 2005 among , 36 lines KL 17/2-3, K 3640/7 and K 3640/10 were the highest susceptible. The only two lines are specified as resistant that were K 18 and KLM 76011/1-12-2. Also the majority of hybrids were tolerant to disease that the highest was K 166/629A x K 19/1. Only one hybrid was resistant to disease with pedigree K 3493/1 x K 18 that probably its resistance could be due to K 18 parent. In 2006 among 19 lines , line k 18 and among 25 hybrids ,two hybrids K 3640 /7 X K 18 and K LM 77029 /8/1-2-3-2-3 X MO 17 were resistant to Fusarium ear rot. Meanwhile , because of the prevalent of pest ( corn borers ) and destoring of ears at Gorgan station the evaluation of materials was not available , therefore this region could not be suitable region for screening of materials to Fusarium ear rot .
