Английский. The topicalities in the sphere of plant nutrient management in agriculture and related areas had been discussed. It is an attempt to summarize the main needs for research information and development in the field of soil fertility evaluation and control, fertilization of crops, use of manures and other organic inputs. The requirements for laboratory and advisory services, organization of scientific activities, development of reference values for fertilisation planning had been pointed out. These activities are important due to many reasons — the implementation of the principles of Good Agricultural Practice, the environmental risk reduction, the monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions and economically sound production. Special attention has been paid to biological farming, as well as to the use of non-traditional products and technologies. Many of these principles have already been included in the scope of several political and legislative documents and are under administrative control, but sometimes they are faintly justified by research findings. The research strategy and development of products necessary for end users are priority areas in the nearest future.

Tā īstenošanai ir jāorganizē stabili izmēģinājumi un ilgtermiņa programmas, kā arī jāveido centrālā koordinējošā institūcija pētījumu veikšanai, informācijas uzkrāšanai, apstrādei un iegūto rezultātu pārnesei uz praktiskās darbības jomu.
