In an experimental investigation, fattening characteristics of young cattle of Holstein Friesian breed (genotype HF) and crosses with Limousin breed (genotype HF x Li) have been compared. There were 10 animals in each group, which consisted of equal number of both sexes. Concentrate mixture, dry sugar beet pulp and maize silage were used in feeding. Differences between genotypes in total and daily live weight gain and weight and dressing percentage of warm carcasses were significant (P<0.01). The crosses achieved better conversion of dry matter by 1.97, energy (NEM) by 3.30 and digestible crude protein, by 4.68, respectively, in relation to Holstein Friesian breed. The results show that by insemination of one part of population of Holstein Friesian breed with Limousin sires better effects in production of beef may be achieved when breeding of dairy types of cattle is concerned.
