During the 1st semester 1987, a multidisciplinary survey was conducted on the extension of climbing bean cultivation in the central plateau region and Mayaga (Rwanda), in collaboration with the Nyabisindu Agropastoral Project. Two var. (C 10 and Gisenyi 2) were distributed to 101 farmers along with recommendations on the cultural practices to be carried out. The follow-up of farmers revealed a very high acceptability rate for this crop as well as a yield potential greater than that of the dwarf bean var. mixture used by the farmer. Trellising, poor soil fertility, and bird attack were the main constraints and are research priorities.
