Shoot tip and node of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat 'Cremon'were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium plus 20 % coconut water and 40 g/l sucrose. Each plantlet with 5 nodes was acutely irradiated with gamma ray at doses of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, or 10 Krad. Then they were subcultured on the same formula of media. With the increasing dose of gamma rays, the growth rate was decreased. Abnormal characters were found such as plants with many nodes and some with chimera leaves. Optimum dose for mutation induction was 1 Krad. When VM2 plantlets from gamma rays treatment were transplanted into soil, it was found that the survival rate was lower than control. Then the shoot from axillary bud of VM2 plant was cut to produce VM3 plant. Variability in some characters were observed such as ray florets were changed from white to yellow and to white with yellow strip. These mutant characters still appeared in VM4 and VM5 plants. The diameter of flower, number of ray florets and disc florets were not different from the control. When chromosome numbers from root tips were studied, it was found that one mutant has 57 chromosomes, the other three mutants with 54 chromosomes similar to the control.
