Some chemical and physical properties of soils as influenced by certain quality of irrigation water [Egypt].

An investigation was carried out in columns to study the effect of irrigation water with different quality on soil properties. Three soils, a Nile suspended matter, an alluvial, and a saline, were used. Irrigation waters containing four different total salt concentrations representing C2S1 (300 p.p.m., 2 SAR), C3S2(1000 p.p.m., 8 SAR), C4S4 (2000 p.p.m., 16 SAR), and C4S4 (3000 p.p.m., 24 SAR), in USDA irrigation water classification were used to irrigate the studied soils. The obtained results show that the salinity of the Nile suspended matter and alluvial soil increased by adding water at classes C4S4 and C4S4 only. While using waters at classes C2S1;C3S2, C4S4, and > C4S4 induced an obvious decrease of salinity in the treated saline soil compared with the untreated soil. The SAR values raised by increasing SAR of using irrigation waters in both Nile suspended matter and alluvial soil. On the other hand, the applied irrigation water content till 8 SAR induced a depression in the SAR of the saline soil than the original one. Also, the ESP of the studied soil was obtained according to the SAR value in the irrigated water. The rate of increase of ESP in the Nile suspended matter> alluvial and saline soils. In general, data revealed that the aggregation in studied soils are affected by saline water containing different SAR in the following order: alluvial > saline > suspended matter.
