The wastes of some local fishes were evaluated for production of guanin and gelatin. Scales of local fishes were good source of guanin, showing yield of 2.44-4.26% which was highest for scales of Denis, followed by Sardine, Karoas and Bolti of lake Nasser. The yield of guanin from one thousand ton of Denis, Karoas, Sardine and Bolti fishes was 1.41, 3.71, 0.94 and 3.42 tons respectively. The percent of scales varried according to fish species and part. The lower the percentage of scales on a fish body, the higher the concentration of guanin in such scales was found. Scales of ventral part showed higher guanin than scales of dorsal part. No relationship was found between the protein content of scales and guanin separated from them. Guanin of different fishes was variable in crystals size and colour, but all products were of attractive intense lustrous.
