Comparison of some wood properties of Pinus muricata and Pinus radiata.
1989
Wilkins A.P. | Bamber R.K.
Samples of wood obtained at 2 heights from nine 31-year-old trees of each species growing on adjacent sites were compared for spirality of grain, basic density, percentage latewood, pooled resin content and amount of sapwood and heartwood. Differences were not significant for most wood properties, but spirality of grain in the inner corewood of P. radiata was up to twice that of P. muricata. P. muricata may therefore be dimensionally more stable and marginally stronger in this zone. Pooled resin content of P. muricata was double that of P. radiata.
