A herd of 22 grown up alpacas of huacaya race was observed once a month, in a Spanish-type vineyard. The alpacas activities and their feeding behavior were determined. The prairie, its dry supply, the vineyard's supply, the compatibility between the management of a table grape vineyard and the breeding of alpacas were assessed. During daily pasture alpacas devoted 56% of their time to feeding, and 20,57% to moving from one place to another. Alpacas highly prefer Bidens pilosa, Bromus catarticus, Cynodon dactylon, Chenopodium album, Lolium multiflorum, Sonchus oleraceus, Sorghum bicolor and Sorghum halepense. Digitaria sanquinalis, same as Echinochloa crusgalli had low acceptance, in spite of being present 30 to 35% in their dry supply. Alpacas feed mainly on the herbaceous stratum, thus contributing to the control of weeds. They do not interfere with labours related to the production of table grapes, and they are easy to manage within the vineyard and they do not represent a significant damage to the production of grapes.
