The experiment was set up as a 2 x 2 x 4 factorial arrangement in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Factor A was phosphorus fertilizer at rates 0 and 45 kg P2O5 per rai; Factor B was seed inoculation with mixed Rhizobium strains of TAL 198 and TAL 471 at ratio of 1:1 and uninoculation; and Factor C was defoliation dates. The plants were defoliated at stages 45, 60 and 75 days after planting. Phosphorus application and rhizobium inoculation did not affect the growth, yield components, seed quality in terms of germination and vigour, as well as cumulative percentage of protein, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content of shoot of Centrosema pubescens before and after cutting. The influence of defoliation at 45 days after planting treatment gave the highest plant regrowth in terms of plant height at 30 and 45 days after cutting; number of new branches at 30 days after cutting, spreading percentage, number of pods per raceme, and cumulative percentage of protein and nitrogen at 30 days after cutting. Defoliation at 75 days after planting gave the highest cumulative dry matter yield of shoot, but number of seeds per pods was not statistically different from the defoliation at 60 days after planting.
