Selection for high linoleic acid content in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.).

There is a need in northern Australian for sunflowers with high and stable polyunsaturated fat content, particularly under hot summer conditions. The production of breeding lines with 25 percent higher linoleic acid than the standard Hysun 32 under high-temperature growing conditions is reported.
