The mutant was crossed with Uthong 1 and CES 1D-21 resulting in four cross combinations, two direct and two reciprocal crosses. Eight characteristics namely plant height at flower bloom, plant height at harvest, number of nodes per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, pod length, 100-seed weight and seed yield per plant were used as the criteria to compare the F1 hybrids with their parents to measure heterosis. The results were as follows: (1) F1 hybrids were superior to their parents in most characteristics whether measured in terms of heterosis or heterobeltiosis; (2) F1 progenies resulted from direct crosses or reciprocal crosses among twin podded mutant, Uthong 1 and CES 1D-21 produced single pods indicating that this characteristic was not controlled by genes in the cytoplasm; (3) F1 plants of different families were self fertilized and F2 progenies were found to have single pod and twin podded progenies that would fit ratio 13:3 and controlled by at least two pairs of genes (dominant and recessive epistasis interaction). Genotypes of single pods are A-B-, A-bb and aabb but twin podded are aaB-.
