The trial was carried out on cv. Chardonnay cl. 130 SMA grapevine grafted on seven rootstocks (T5C, K5BB, G13, T8B, SO4, 1103 P, 41 B) in a hilly territory of Piacenza country (44. 50' lat. Nord) about 255 m a.s.l. The effects of vine rootstocks on leaf blade and petiole K and Mg contents of Chardonnay were studied. 1103 P induced lower K-content in petiole, whereas SO4 the highest one. 1103 P and 41 B induced higher Mg-contents in petiole, whereas T5C and SO4 the lowest one. Petiole analysis was more efficient than leaf blade analysis to distinguish the genotypes. Rootstocks did not influence the yield, total soluble solids, whereas had some control on titratable acidity and berry weight. Studies on variations and concentration during berry growth and ripening had shown differences within rootstocks. SO4 and K5BB induced highest K-content and pH in juice, while 1103 P and T5C the lowest ones. It has been found a positive correlation between pH in juice and K+ juice. The effect of rootstocks on pH can be attributed to variation in K+ concentration.
