The influence of linuron was used as per emergence application employing 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 kg a-1/ha along with water spray as control. The suitable dose of linuron was analysed on the basis of weed killing action and its stimulating effect on plant growth, dry matter production, root behaviour, physiological efficiency of oat variety IGFRI-S-3021. Linuron 0.25 kg a.i/ha exhibited significant increase in leaf number, leaf area length and volume of root and dry matter production of leaf and stem. Such effects on the parameter at 0.50 kg linuron application indicated induced physiological activity of oat plant for reaching high biomass production up to pre-flowering stage. At later stage of crop growth (grain development stage), application of 0.50 kg linuron/ha augmented the physiological process (water soluble sugar in flag leaf and spikelets of oat) leading to high grain formation of oat. Higher concentration of linuron (0.75 kg/ha) showed a phytotoxic effect on oat crop.
