Root growth studies on some of the upland rice cultures. Short communication.

A set of 40 rice varieties were evaluated for their tolerance to drought under field conditions. The drought tolerant varieties (IET 7566, IET 9816, PM 1381, IET 9825 PMK 1 and IET 9810) capable of yielding 2.6 to 3.8 t/ha under test conditions were characterised by longer and greater number of roots than the sensitive varieties.
