[Potential use of the productivity of alfalfa varieties in environmentally friendly forage production systems]. [English]
2002
Adamovich A. | Gaile Z.
Field trials (1997-2000) were established on Stagnic Luvisol and Sod Podzolic Soils. Evaluation of 24 alfalfa varieties in pure and 2 varieties in mixed stands was carried out. Swards were cut three to four times during the growing season. The yield of alfalfa mixtures with perennial grasses was 10.14 to 13.30 t ha*[-1), but the average yields of pure stands were 16.50 to 22.90 t ha*[-1) despite of stand density reduction by 31.04% during four years. The quality of alfalfa mainly depends on the number of cut, but less from the genotype used. Traditional three-cut schedule was good for long alfalfa persistence, but it was not good enough regarding high quality demands in forage production.
