There are contradictory opinions about subsequent effects of sown grains' size, i.e. about yield given by plants grown from grains of different size - different weight of 1000 grains (WTG). In order to obtain more information on this topic vegetation experiments with "Bialy" oats (the line traced back from "Przeboj 1" cultivar by the author) were undertaken. The vegetation experiments' method was modified by so-called mixed sowing, i.e. big and small grains were drilled together in pots at microplots. The results have confirmed the occurrence of subsequent effect of sown grains' size on the yield of plants grown from these grains. This effect was more visible in the case of mixed sowing, both in pots on microplots. The bigger difference of grains' size in mixed sowing on a microplot, the smaller share of yield of plants grown from small grains. Extremely small grains even in separate sowing have shown their distinctly lower value as seed material. A conclusion can be drawn that in present norms the requirements concerning size of offal grains are too liberal and therefore they should be raised.
