Non Han Changwat Sakon Nakhon is a big freshwater swamp in the northeastern part of Thailand which many kinds of aquatic plants are distributed. The study of aquatic plants in Nong Han was conducted from January of November 1987. There are 24 species in 18 families of aquatic plants with biomass (wet weight) of 4.022 kilogrames per square metres. The most dominant species observed are submerged type such as Potamogeton malainus, Hydrilla verticillata and Najas graminea. Eichhornia crassipes and Salvinia cucullata are the floating type that also found in moderate abundancy but are distributed only in some parts and also Nympheae lotus of the emerged type. Quantity and distribution of aquatic plants are changed depending on low and high flow periods, the level of water and the intensity of light through the water. An increase in depth and terbid water during rainy season causes slowly growing and less distribution, on the other hand, the shallow water level and more transparent water during dry season is suitable for the growth of aquatic plants.
