The objective was to produce a hybrid material which would enable to introduce the powdery mildew resistance of T. timopheevi into cultivated wheat. As a first step, T. timopheevi was crossed with the Mv9 kr l line, and then back-crossed with them. A colchicine treatment of the F1 generation gave amphipolids which are already sufficiently fertile, and capable of being used for producing disomatic additional lines and translocations, i. e. for introducing the genes responsible for the resistance to powdery mildew into the gene set of the cultivated wheat.
