ITALIANO: [Si sono indagati gli effetti dell'azoto sul nitrato e nitrito del terreno e sull'attivita' nitrato-reduttasica del cotone a fibra lunga, Gossypium barbadense, varieta' Barakat. I terreni fertilizzati con KNO3 e NH4NO3 hanno fornito livelli di nitrato piu' alti di quelli concimati con urea e (NH4)2SO4. Questo e' presumibilmente dovuto alle perdite di azoto dall'urea e da (NH4)2SO4 per volatilizzazione. Il contenuto di nitrito del terreno trattato con KNO3 era basso, anche piu' di quello senza trattamento con azoto. L'attivita' nitrato-reduttasica era piu' alta nelle piante trattate con KNO3 e NH4NO3 in paragone a quelle trattate con urea e (NH4)2SO4. E' stata stabilita una relazione lineare tra il nitrato del terreno e l'attivita' nitrato-reduttasica].

The effect of the nitrogen form on soil nitrate and nitrite and nitrate reductase activity of long staple cotton, Gossypium barbadense, variety Barakat was investigated. Soils supplied with KNO3 and NH4NO3 furnished higher levels of nitrate than those supplied with urea and (NH4)2SO4 and this is presumably due to nitrogen losses from urea and (NH4)2SO4 by volatilization. Nitrite content of soil treated with KNO3 was low, even than that of no nitrogen treatment. Nitrate reductase activity was high in plants treated with KNO3 and NH4NO3 compared to those treated with urea and (NH4)2SO4. A linear relationship between soil nitrate and nitrate reductase activity was established.
