The present study concerning to the Common Chameleon, Chamaeleo chamaeleon (L.) (Chamaeleonidae, Reptilia) is nowadays the most complete one about the coloration of this species. About a thousand of Chameleons proceeding from the South of Spain and North of Morocco whose obtained for the study of seasonal variations and the evolution of the chromatic patterns from the newborn to the adults. The results obtained show five chromatic patterns interconvertible one another: basic, uniform, reproductive ones, hibernal, and other physiological ones. The difference between males and females point out to a constant sexual dichromatism along the year. On the other hand, no remarkable differences were obtained between Spanish Chameleons and North African ones. The basic patterns were also analyzed in order to determine the variations in relation to environmental changes and possible ontogenic origin.
