Mulching the soil with straw promoted improvement of its structural composition, the increase of humus content, available moisture and elements of mineral nutrition, optimization of soil invertebrates activity. Straw also had beneficial effect on development of root and above-ground systems of apple tree. The average yield of fruits per one tree was higher than that on the plots with fallow and soddy-humic systems of soil management by 22 and 19 kg respectively, and fruits were larger in size.
