Reasons and consequences of the contemporary agrarian crisis followed by social and economic recession in agriculture are analysed. Positive and negative agrarian changes are estimated. As a result, Ukraine is stated not to be prepared to social and economic development under new conditions. Insufficient development of the machine-building industry, inadequate training of the managers and specialists in order to increase their ability to work in new conditions in the field of agriculture are referred to as key problems of the agrarian sector of economy.
