A study on infiltration rate in the soil (red yellow podsolic) at different moisture contents and plow depths was conducted in the village of Pulung Kencana, Sub district Tulang Bawang Tengah, District/North Lampung, Province of Lampung during the wet season in 1979. Plowing was done with cut depths of 10, 15, 20 cm at several plots of different moisture contents (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 percent). The combination of twenty treatments including unplowed soil were replicated 6 times. Infiltration rate at each treatment was recorded by using 2 cylindrical tubes of 2 and 4 inches in diameter. Water infiltration was measured at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 40th, 60th, 80th, 100th, 120th, 150th, 180th minute. Result of the study showed that the deeper the cut of the soil the higher the infiltration are. A cut depth of 20 cm at 10 percent moisture content gave the highest infiltration rate of 12.15, 1.005, 0.848 and 0.493 cm/main respectively at the 1st, 60th, 120th and 180th minute. On the other hand, unprepared land with a high water content (30 percent) showed the lowest water infiltration of 0.825, 0.406, 0.291 and 0.133 cm/min respectively at the 1st, 60th, 120th, and 180th minute. The equation of the speed of water infiltration in the soil is I = kW at the power of m, where k and m represents unstable constants for a certain soil type. The equation is affected by environmental conditions like soil water content and plow depth. A bigger value of k and smaller value of m results in a higher infiltration rate.
