The management of grazing lands in the Western Downs and Maranoa [Queensland]. [Workshop proceedings].
1993
Clarke R.A. (ed.)
This workshop succeeded in collating, documenting and reviewing the best available technical information relevant to grazing land management in the Western Downs and Maranoa region of Queensland in 1990. An important feature was the inclusion of officers from the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage and Queensland Forest Services. We should no longer plan the management of land for production without consideration of the fauna and flora which contribute to a balanced ecosystem. It is considered important to involve all the major players in the development of recommendations for grazing land management from the outset. The use of single discipline groups to discuss the content of each workshop session was considered very valuable. The information contained in the summaries of the forum discussions represents the collective experience of many specialists focussed on achieving sustainable production in the region. The inclusion of graziers in the property planning seminar contributed to participants taking a practical approach to this important regional issue. It is hoped that this document will help leaders, both within and outside government departments, to collaborate with graziers to achieve adoption of sustainable grazing lands management in the Western Downs and Maranoa region.
