Influencia de las auxinas de sintesis en la calidad del fruto del tomate (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivado en invernaderos a baja temperatura.

The effect of the application of synthetic auxins on fruit quality has been studied in the tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivars "Early Pak-707" and "Marmande Raf" grown in unheated greenhouses during winter and spring. Blossom-end elongation and fruit puffiness were present in untreated fruits under the growth conditions of the experiments but these alterations were increased by auxin applications, existing a clear relationship between this effect and the enhancement of fruit development. Synthetic auxins interfered with seed formation and/or development, increasing the percentage of parthenocarpic fruits, and increased total solids of the fruits, but were not related to the formation of "cat-faced" and fasciated fruits. The two cultivars studied showed a different sensitiveness to the incidence of the alterations and the response to synthetic auxins.
