The experiment aimed to determine the adequate population of the nursery beds, in each progeny, in the production of seedling tubers. The experimental design was made in a greenhouse, containing a split plot with four repetitions, in random blocks. Population of 50; 100; 150 and 200 plants/m2, constituted the main plot and the subplots were the hybrid progenies: Atzimba x DTO-33, Atlantic x LT-7 and Serrana x DTO-28, together with Desiree PA, an open-pollinated progeny. The average yield was 2,2 kg/ m2, in all populations; more seedling tubers were found in the densest population. Atlantic x LT-7 and Desire PA tubered first, therefore these are considered early varieties. The best progeny was Serrana x DTO-28 with more seedling tubers, while Atzimba x DTO-33 was the one with the lowest number of tubers. With denser populations (150 and 200 plants/m2) more small tubers (1 to 20 g) are obtained, whereas, in order to obtain more seedling tubers (between 5 to 40 g), 100 plants/m2 should be used, which also enables an efficient handling of the nursery beds.
