In a pot experiment, the effects of increasing rates of N, K, Na and Mg on yield, mineral composition and cationic relationship in Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) were studied. Both N and K significantly increased dry matter yields of the crop, while the effect of sodium and magnesium appeared insignificant. A positive effect of N fertilization on the Mg, Ca and Na concentration was shown. Potassium fertilization caused its excessive accumulation in the grass tissues and markedly decreased Na concentration. Application of magnesium to the soil increased the content of the element and decreased the Na and Ca concentration in the grass. Nitrogen and sodium fertilization increased Na concentration in the grass tissues resulting in a desirable decrease of the K/N ratio.
