Effect of nitrogen with or without boron was studied on plant growth, flowering, fruit set, fruit drop, fruit maturity and yield in apricot 'Trevatt'. Three levels of nitrogen (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 Kg/tree) were applied with or without 1 g boron/tree or 20 ppm as foliar spray. Nitrogen in combination with boron spray had significant effects. Maximum increase in tree girth (6.55 cm) and shoot length (99.75 cm) were in trees treated with 1.5 Kg N/tree + 20 ppm boron spray as compared to 2.17 cm and 37.25 cm in control. Number of flowers/branch (28.6), fruit set (20.56) and yield/tree (86.62 Kg) were significantly more on trees fertilized with 1 Kg N/tree + 20 ppm boron spray as compared to 21.19 flowers/branch, 12.87 fruits and 55.77 Kg yield/tree in control. Nitrogen at the rate of 1.5 Kg alone or with boron delayed maturity by 6 to 7 days compared to the rest of the treatments. Nitrogen at the rate of 1.0 Kg/tree + 20 ppm boron spray is recommended for better production of apricot.
