Cereal crops used as the previous crop give somewhat lower when compared to late row crops. Higher and more stable yields have beed produced by sunflower in the seven-year rotation instead of the three-year one, ploughing in the autumn instead of spring, sowing in the first twenty-day period of April instead of later and harvesting at the beginning of October instead of first ten-day period of September. Fertilization with minimal quantities of NPK, removal of the stubble and row cultivation secure higher and more stable yields as well. NS-H-111 and NS-H-45 hybrids were used to sow 60 of the acreage and were the ones that contributed most to attaining the average yield of 2.43 t/ha in 1996 in surveyed area. Optimal nutrition for sunflower on the chernozem soil type is 50-60 kg/ha of all three elements, having in mind that it also responds positively to residual nitrogen from the previous crop.
