Experiment on the amount of corn's leaves, Suwan 1 consumed by locust, Patanga succincta (L.) during its development from first to the last instar and during the adult stage by measuring the surface area eaten and the weight of the leaves consumed revealed that the amount of leaves ingested by the locust increased drastically following the number of age of the locust. It was found that the 4 last instar consumed the maximum quantity of the leaves, (with an average of 42.5 sq. cms. or 0.85 gm per day for a locust) whereas the adult ingested less than the last instar. There were not significant difference between the measurement of surface area and the leaf weight from testing the amount of corn leaves ingested by the locust. Either method could be applied to both laboratory and field.
