Studies on NPK fertilization were carried out in an off Betinan Research Station last 1981-1990 to evaluate response of rice and corn after successive cultivation. Small increases in yield of IR54 was observed with the application of phosphorus fertilizer during the initial year of the study. There was a considerable increase in yield in response to nitrogen being applied at the rate of 80 kg/ha. Higher yield was obtained at 120 kg/ha but often caused lodging. With high level of technology, denorado is outsmarted by the improved variety, UPLRi5, in terms of net benefit. Varying levels of potassium were applied on both rice and corn, nil to minimal benefit was obtained upon application. In corn, grain yield increases with either N and P applied but the response to nitrogen was considerably greater than that to phosphorus. Highest net benefit of P13,518.00 was obtained with the application of fertilizer at the rate of 78-40-0 kg NPK/ha with a difference of P6,892.00.
