The effectivity of three varying concentrations of Nomolt 5SC (Teflubenzuron) at 30, 20 and 13 ml dilutions per 16 li of water and Thuricide HP at 1 kg of formulated product per ha. was evaluated against the diamondback-moth (Plutella xylostella L.) infesting head cabbage. The study which was conducted at Benguet State University [Philippines] was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The hybrid Scorpio cabbage variety was planted on 1 x 10 meter plots following the double row planting with row-hill distances of 40 and 35 cm. The efficacy of the test insecticides were evaluated by regular larval counts, damage rating on both the leaves and the marketable yield. Treatments using Nomolt 5 SC generally gave the least larval counts and was rated to produce sound, undamaged heads. A 100% increase in marketable yield of cabbage heads was obtained in all treatments using Nomolt 5 SC. Thuricide HP treated plots were noted to have high larval counts and damage ratings on leaves and heads were severe. Harvested cabbage heads were mostly non-marketable (78%) and comparatively similar to the untreated plots.
