Different rates of carbofuran 3G tested had some significant effect on the growth of corn, especially at the rate of 1.0 g/hill. At such rate the best growth development was obtained in comparison with control with the following averages: the plant heights were 275.20 and 260.42 cm; the number of leaves was 14.38 and 13.8 leaves/plant; the leaf areas were 443.41 and 370.26 square cm/plant, the 50 % tasselling and silking days were 46.25 and 51 and 51 and 57.5 days; the first and second ear heights were 121.65 and 104.84 and 106.75 and 96.88 cm, the dry matters were 247.86 and 228.49 g/plant and the crop growth rates were 5.76 and 4.40 g/day/plant when the corn was ten weeks old respectively. The effect of carbofuran 3G on the yield and yield components were also similar. At the rate of 10 g/hill, highest yield and yield components comparing with control gave the following averages: the number of ears was 2.038 and 1.988 ears/plant; the ear lengths were 23.12 and 20.82 cm; the ear girths were 15.86 and 13.82 cm; the ear weights were 263.41 and 231.11 g; and the yields were 4579.68 and 3919.51 kg/rai respectively. Ostrinia furnacalis Guenee (Lepidoptera : Pyralidae), Rhapalosiphum maidis Fitch (Homoptera : Aphididae), Frankliniella williamsi Houd (Thysanoptera : Thripidae), Adoretus compressus Web (Coleoptera : Scarabaidae) were found to attack corn plant throughout the experiment. The natural enemies found were Proreus similans Strallen (Dermaptera : Chelisochidae), Menochilus sexmaculatus Fitch (Coleoptera : Coccinellidae) and Vespa sp. (Hymenoptera : Vespidae). Their population density did not seem to differ on corn treated with different rates of carbofuran.
