Responses of corn genotypes to irrigation frequencies and plant densities were studied at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center, Nakhon Ratchasima province from December, 1979 to April, 1980. The results showed beneficial effects on yield components, grain yield and some agronomic characteristics with increasing irrigation frequency. Water consumption increased with increasing irrigation frequency. A 14-day interval between irrigation resulted in the highest water use efficiency. The increase in plant density delayed the silking date and the tasseling to silking interval but showed no effect on the tasseling date and grain yield. Yield components and agronomic characteristics, on the other hand. decreased with increasing plant densities. Varietal differences were observed in agronomic characteristics, yield components, leaf water status, and water use efficiency. Suwan 1 variety was superior to the other two varieties in water use efficiency and drought tolerance.
