Hot water extract and 95 percent alcoholic crude extract of star anise of the concentrations of 750, 1,500, 3,000 and 6,000 ppm. were sprayed separately to corn seedlings. Then after the intervals of 1, 3 and 5 days, the sprayed plants were inoculated with spore suspension of D. maydis. Similar results were obtained, i.e. lowest disease severity occurred at the concentrations of 3,000 and 6,000 ppm. followed by at 1,500 and 750 ppm., respectively. Moreover, disease severity of the experiment was significantly lower than the control. Antifungal property of star anise crude extracts to control a leaf disease of corn caused by D. maydis would be reduced as time interval of preinoculated spray of the extract was increased. This was indicated by corn seedlings received a preinoculated spray of 1 day had less disease severity than those of 3 days and 3 days less than 5 days respectively.
