Refinement of existing rearing techniques for asiatic corn borer was made by determining efficient microbial sterilant, optimum eggmass and pupal storage duration and incubation temperatures and optimum eggseeding rate per rearing pan. Five percent sodium hypochlorite was found adequate to surface-sterilize contaminated eggmasses. The insect supply could be maximized because eggmasses or pupae may be stored at 10 C for 5 days with minimal effect on hatchability and adult emergence. Furthermore, pupae seemed to tolerate low temperature much better compared to eggmasses. For optimum seeding rate, results showed that 250 eggs per rearing pan was most appropriate and practical.
