This study concives the agricultural production systems and regions like economic and social facts. The theoric framework, the underpinning concepts, the agricultural calssification and the regionalization method had been developed here in accordance with this principle. sBoth the municipality level aggregated and the farm level seggregated information from the 1970 agricultural census were the sources from which the variables describing the agricultural characteristics of each municipality were worked out. the analysis of this information by means of modern factor analysis, as well as our theoretical interpretation of this results, maked it possible to classify the mexican agriculture into 18 production systems and to delimit 72 agricultural regions with 187 subregions.
