Use of soil survey data on the collection of appropriate cropping pattern in Cagayan Valley [Philippines].
1987
De Leon D.S.
An approach in the selection of appropriate cropping pattern was tested and evaluated in the outreach sites of the Regional Integrated Agricultural Research System situated in the province of Cagayan, Isabela and Nueva Viscaya [Philippines]. The scheme utilizes maximum possible yield of crops and the established productivity ratings of the soil as well as the prevailing climatic conditions in the area. The soils in the study area were classified following the Soil Taxonomy framework and the resulting classification was used to approximate the productivity ratings of the soil using the Roger's model. The ratings include the inherent and maximum productivity of the soils after identifying the production constraints concluded from the model. These ratings were used in the calculations of the predicted yield of crops and comparisons made between these predicted yield and actual yield served as basis in the formulation of appropriate cropping pattern in the area.
