The phenology of the witloof chicory fly Napomyza cichorii Spencer was studied with yellow trap boxes over a period of 10 years (1984-1993) in Belgium. The number of flies caught in yellow trap boxes varied with time and place. The weather parameters like temperature and rainfall had an effect on the multiplication and emergence of the witloof chicory fly. It was found that the lower temperatures during the winter months (January, February) had an effect on the emergence. It was also found that the lower populations are due to larger numbers of hymenopteran parasites and polyphagous predators in the trap boxes.
