Biologia, comportamiento y capacidad depredadora de Nabis ca. nigriventris (Hemiptera:Nabidae) sobre Acyrthosiphon pisum (Homoptera:Aphididae).

The biology, predatory capacity, feeding habits and preference, and oviposition of Nabis ca. nigriventris Stal were studied under laboratory and greenhouse conditions; in the field, the population fluctuation of the predator and its prey, the green pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) were registered, as well as certain aspects of behavior; on the basis of this set of data the nabid was evaluated as a predator. In the field the maximun population of the nabid was from May to August and that of the aphid from February to March and from May until August. Climatic factors and periodic cuts of alfalfa in the whole fields affected negatively the populations of the nabid and other beneficial insects. N. ca. nigriventris was found all year long in alfalfa fields in Chapingo, Mexico, apparently expoiting its prey in a constant and moderate way, thus complementing the action of other predators of aphids in this crop.

Se estudiaron la biologia, la capacidad depredadora, preferencia y habitos alimentarios y de oviposicion de Nabis ca. nigriventris Stal en condiciones de laboratorio e invernadero; en el campo se registraron la fluctuacion poblacional del depredador y su presa, el pulgon verde, Acyrthosiphon pisum, asi como algunos aspectos del comportamiento; con base en el conjunto de informacion se evaluo al nabido como depredador. En el campo la poblacion maxima del nabido se encontro de mayo a agosto y la del pulgon de febrero a marzo y de mayo a agosto. Los factores climaticos y los cortes de la alfalfa, periodicos y en la totalidad del campo, afectaron negativamente las poblaciones de los nabidos y otros insectos beneficos. N. ca. nigriventris se encontro todo el ano en alfalfares de Chapingo, explotando, al parecer, en forma constante y moderada a sus presas, complementando asi la accion de otros depredadores de afidos en el cultivo.
